With key international talks in Paris coming up at the end of the year, what kind of agreement would be needed to actually tackle climate change, and what is realistic? Some environmentalists argue that the only hope lies in the radical decision to call a halt to economic growth, but others think this is neither possible nor even desirable.

Alex Bowen
Dr Alex Bowen joined the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at LSE in 2008 as a Principal Research Fellow, after many years at the Bank of England. He first became involved in climate change issues when seconded as lead economist to the Stern Review of the Economics of Climate Change. His research interests include the design of public policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, ‘green’ growth and the macroeconomic and labour-market aspects of climate-change policies. He has been a consultant to the EBRD, OECD, World Bank, ADBI, DFID and DECC among others.
Katherine Drayson
Katherine Drayson joined Policy Exchange in January 2013 as a Research Fellow for the Environment & Energy Unit. Before joining Policy Exchange, she conducted a PhD investigating the role played by ecology in the English planning system, and how this could be improved. Prior to this, she worked as an ecological consultant for both a global multidisciplinary consultancy and a specialist ecological consultancy. Cameron Hepburn
Professor Cameron Hepburn is the Director of the Economics of Sustainability Programme at the Institute for New Economic Thinking at the Oxford Martin School, Professor of Environmental Economics at the Smith School and a Fellow at New College, University of Oxford. He advises various organisations on environmental, resource and energy economics, including as a member of the Economics Advisory Group to the UK Secretary of State for Energy & Climate Change. Kate Raworth
Kate Raworth is an economist focused on the rewriting of economics to make it fit for addressing this century’s realities. She is the creator of the Doughnut of social and planetary boundaries which has gained widespread traction in international policy debates on sustainable development. She is a senior visiting research associate and lecturer at Oxford University’s Environmental Change Institute, and a senior associate of the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership.
