From austerity to Brexit, food banks to Grenfell, the period 2010-2020 was marked by political paralysis and national malaise. But there were spots of light amid the darkness. Blending the numbers with illuminating insight into the everyday experiences of people across the UK, Polly Toynbee and David Walker give an unmissable account of how we got here – and of what now lies ahead.
