In their theatre production Institute, Gecko is inviting Bristol audiences to enter a shadowy, Orwellian establishment where residents attempt to create order from the chaos of life, carers become patients, memories fracture and relationships collide.

Within this warped world of emotional compartmentalisation, four men undergo a series of extraordinary treatments, each driven by a desire to care and be cared for.

Join us for a conversation with the show’s creator Amit Lahav, Fred Ehresmann and Salena Williams from the Mental Health Nursing department at UWE and Stella Mann, curator at Glenside Hospital Museum, about historical depictions of the asylum and bringing mental illness to the stage.
