Re-Imagining the American Dream

Casey Gerald has witnessed every facet of the American Dream: from his harrowing Texas childhood, to the heights of America’s institutions—as a student at Yale and Harvard; on Wall Street and in Washington—to his journeys through the American heartland as a social entrepreneur. But with his astonishing memoir, There Will Be No Miracles Here, Gerald stands the American Dream narrative on its head. He has crafted a book that is at once a deeply personal memoir, an absorbing meditation, and an incisive manifesto that straddles the complex intersections of race, class, religion, and queer sexuality.

In this event, he shares his journey and his bold message, which questions the foundational myths of modern America, and suggests how we might build a new foundation strong enough to sustain the richness of all that we are.
