This year the Caine Prize for African Writing marks its 20th anniversary, celebrating two decades of championing, developing and promoting African literature. Join writers from the 2019 Caine Prize shortlist for a rare appearance outside of London, as they talk to Nikesh Shukla about writing, publishing and prizing.

Africa Writes – Bristol 2019 is brought to you by the Royal African Society and Saseni!, and supported by Arts Council England, the Bristol Cultural Development Partnership, University of Bristol and University of Exeter.

Tickets are also available to buy in person at Waterstones Bristol Galleries or on 0117 925 2274. Waterstones Loyalty Card holders can purchase tickets at the concession rate in person at the Galleries shop.

Please note that you will be asked of proof for your eligibility for a concession ticket. Concessions apply to Full Time Students, Job Seekers Allowance, Incapacity Benefit claimants, over 60s and disabled people. Please note that no refunds/exchanges are possible for tickets already purchased at the higher price.

Please make sure to arrive before the advertised start time to take your seat/s. Refunds are only available if an event is cancelled.

Africa Writes – Bristol endeavours to hold its events in venues that are accessible to all. Events in Waterstones are amplified but there is no loop system. There are toilets for public use. If you have specific access concerns, please contact us with any questions.

Wheelchair users and visitors who require an assistant may bring a companion free of charge. To book a free companion ticket please get in touch.

We sometimes film and photograph Festival of Ideas events. Please let us know if you do not wish to be filmed or photographed.
