Our individuality is under attack as never before. Two huge new forces - new technology and the rise in fundamentalism - are in their different ways combining to threaten the control of our own minds and so the whole way our society functions. We have never more urgently needed to look at what we want for ourselves as individuals - for our children, and for our future society.

Baroness Greenfield, Director of the Royal Institution of Great Britain, draws on the latest findings in neuroscience to show how far we are and can be in control of the development of our brains and minds - and the actions we need to take now both to safeguard our individuality and to find the fulfilment which our current unfettered materialism cannot provide. All this inevitably poses many questions about human nature, our past, what makes us individual, the connection between the brain and the mind, what a society of fulfilled individuals would actually mean - all of which Susan Greenfield attempts to answer.

This is interesting as I feel that to have self-awareness about how our minds work and its link to our mental health is the key to finding fulfillment in todays materialistic society. I have been foprced to confront my own mind and its development as a result of severe mental illness and my "cure" lies in understanding what makes me happy and what makes me stressed and making decisions about my lifestyle based on this knowledge. It is a knowledge that I see lacking in my friends and fanily who remain stuck and trapped by a world which makes so many demands of a person and increasingly does not attend to the individual needs of a person and the resulting impact of needs being unmet has on them and society in general. A society of unhappy people makes for a disgruntled society sucha s we have in Britain!! Addiction in all its forms can be destructive even if it started out as fun and we are increasingly seeing addiction to a fast paced and uncaring life as a result of addiction to individual wealth. I could go on but I will leave the rest up to the baronness--after all she ahs the right label to be listened to. I don 't! thanks for listening. and good luck
