Robert Fisk is the Middle Eastern Correspondent for The Independent newspaper and known worldwide for his frank and honest reporting especially in recent years on Iraq, the Middle East, its wars, dictators and international relations. The New York Times called him "probably the most famous foreign correspondent in Britain".
Fisk has reported from Belfast in the seventies, Portugal in 1974 following the revolution, the 1979 Iranian revolution, the 1980-88 Gulf war, and the Lebanese civil war. He was one of the first journalists to visit the scene of the Sabra and Shatlia massacre. He has won many awards - the most recent being the US Lannan Foundation 2006 Lifetime Achievement Prize for Cultural Freedom.
His bestselling books include The Great War for Civilisation: The Conquest of the Middle East, which was called a "remarkable book" by the New Statesman and a "fierce indictment of Britain and the United States" by the Sunday Telegraph.
His new book is The Age of the Warrior, a selection of his finest comment pieces from the Saturday Independent. Challenging in his views, and incisive in his comments, his journalism is based on extensive knowledge, experience and contacts, and is always insightful, witty and outspoken, providing an essential guide to international politics and attracting hundreds of thousands of devoted readers. |
