Digital fabrication technologies hold the possibility for radically democratising the design and construction of how and where we make almost everything – including our homes and communities. This event brings together leading thinkers, architects, artists, makers and local people to explore how the new means of production can be held in the hands of the many rather than the few and how they can be used to create the places communities want.

Speakers include Je Ahn, Bruce Bell, Kathrin Böhm, Melissa Mean and Jonathan Mosley.

Following the event ticket holders are invited to attend a preview of the exhibition ‘The Artist Hotel: A Room with a View’, details of which are below.

The Artist Hotel: A Room with a View
Knowle West Media Centre, 18:30-20:30

The Artist Hotel Knowle West doesn’t exist yet. This exhibition explores what form the hotel could take and its relationship with the host community and surrounding landscape. Featuring ‘The Room’, a prototype hotel room developed by UWE interior architecture students working with artists and local people; and ‘The View: The Five Thousand Island Forest’, a specially commissioned series by photographer Nicholas White exploring the landscape of Knowle West.

In association with the Department of Architecture and the Built Environment at the University of the West of England, Knowle West Media Centre, and The Architecture Centre.
