Wed 18 November 2015,

Bristol received the largest Arts Council England Exceptional award for the Bristol 2015 programme. Situations, producers of Theaster Gates’ Sanctum for Bristol 2015 European Green Capital, offer the chance for a behind-the-scenes insight into mounting public art projects of scale and ambition. During this two-hour masterclass, the creative teams at Situations and MAYK will share their experiences and views on the logistical, artistic and communications challenges of producing Sanctum. They’ll cover the consideration of time and duration in public art, working in sensitive heritage sites, gathering a temporary community around an inspirational idea and collaborating with local partners to extend the depth and reach of public engagement. With filmed contributions from international producers from Creative Time, Public Art Agency Sweden, Eastside Projects and many more.

Following this there will be an hour-long discussion with directors and participants in other Exceptional projects, including Luke Jerram from Withdrawn, Arcadia (Zoe Sear from Bristol 2015) and the Richard Long exhibition (Helen Davies from Arnolfini).
