Film screening and discussion

Sun 22 November 2015,

Climate change is a topic which seems to slip in and out of the headlines. Stunning new documentary Planetary firmly puts the focus on the urgent need to protect this breathtaking and awe-inspiring planet we inhabit. The Earth is our most precious asset, and director Guy Reid’s (Overview) documentary is a timely reminder that we need to take action now to safeguard our future.

Planetary is a provocative and breath-taking wake up call – a cross-continental cinematic journey that explores our cosmic origins and our future as a species. Reminiscent of Godfrey Reggio’s beloved Qatsi trilogy, Planetary merges a beautiful score by Human Suits with spectacular imagery. The film interweaves images from NASA Apollo missions with visions of the Milky Way, Buddhist monasteries in the Himalayas, and the sounds of downtown Tokyo and Manhattan, with interviews from renowned experts including astronauts, environmentalists, authors, anthropologists and Tibetan Buddhists. They each shed new light on the ways our current worldview is profoundly affecting life on our planet.

Following the screening there will be a discussion on the issues raised by the film. Speakers include Darren Hall (Big Green Week/ Love Your Future), Steve Kennedy (producer, writer and editor of Planetary). Chaired by Andrew Kelly (Bristol Festival of Ideas).
