The Future of Animal Rights

With Stephen F Eisenman, Harriet Ritvo and Kate Soper.

Tue 24 May 2016,

One of the great social movements of our time – and one that continues to be controversial – is that of the rights of animals. Do animals have rights? Should animal welfare rather than animal rights be the focus? How much progress is being made in making life better for animals in captivity, used for food, and in the wild? Stephen F Eisenman, Professor of Art History at Northwestern and author of The Cry of Nature Art and the Making of Animal Rights and The Ghosts of Our Meat Sue Coe, joins Harriet Ritvo, Arthur J Conner Professor of History, MIT and author of The Animal Estate, and philosopher, writer and commentator Kate Soper to debate these issues and more.
