Darren Henley: Cultural Education

Bristol800 Weekender

Darren Henley
Thu 10 November 2016,

Darren Henley, CEO of Arts Council England, gives a lecture on “How investment in cultural education for young people today will create the world-beating cities of tomorrow” to launch the Bristol Cultural Education Lecture Series. This will be followed by a panel discussion, with panellists including Phil Gibby (South West Director, Arts Council England) and Thangam Debbonaire (MP, Bristol West) to give a local context to this important topic.

Join Bristol Cultural Education Partnership and UWE Bristol’s Visual Cultures Research Group to explore cultural education: the challenges and opportunities posed by differing conceptions of its purpose, aims and importance; its role in the city, plus its contribution to its relationship to wider discourses surrounding the development of social, cultural and economic capital, social mobility and future employment.

This event is part of the Bristol800 Universities Showcase Weekend.

Bristol800 is supported by:

Arts Council England, Bristol & Bath Cultural Destinations, Bristol City Council, The Society of Merchant Venturers, University of Bristol, University of the West of England
