How do our neighbourhoods affect our overall happiness and well being? And what might they reflect about our underlying personalities?
A study by an international group of psychologists took a detailed look at the connection between personality and happiness in London. The study explored the neighbourhood clustering of five personality traits: openness to experience, extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and emotional stability.
The most clustered personality trait the researchers found was “openness to experience”, which is concentrated in the centre of London. Extroverted types also cluster near the centre, though not in the concentration levels seen for openness to experience. Agreeableness and conscientiousness are concentrated in outlying suburban areas, and happier residents generally clustered in the most well-to-do neighbourhoods.
